Xanadu once again had the pleasure of having a recent renovation featured in the local Guelph region Toque Magazine. Read on to learn more about the project.
This beautiful Georgian-style home exuded historic charm, but one key area was ready for a refresh. The kitchen, once separated from a small dining area, felt closed off and short on both storage and flow. With this in mind, the Xanadu team set out to reimagine the space. Preserving the home’s century-old character while introducing a touch of modern sophistication.
A stunning wood-clad wall now anchors the design, complemented by rich green glazed tiles that add depth and warmth. The palette ties seamlessly to the adjacent paneled dining room, creating visual continuity between old and new. Thoughtful modern details, like paneled appliances and an integrated range hood, blend effortlessly into the architecture, marrying timeless craftsmanship with contemporary function. The result is a kitchen that feels as though it’s always belonged, yet lives beautifully for today.
THE HIGHLIGHT REEL:
(1) Checkerboard floor, wood panels, ceramic tiles and metal accents come together to create a kitchen that feels both modern and timeless.
(2) A custom vent hood crafted from cherry wood and finished in a custom stain by Xanadu serves as a central focal point.
(3) Open sightlines from the kitchen into the living room add drama and amplify the sense of space.
(4) Deep teal Art Deco-inspired tiles ground the bold backsplash and feature wall.
(5) A thoughtfully-placed coffee nook with hanging light anchors the kitchen: practical, stylish, and inviting.
(6) Smart, discrete gestures – including a lit glassware cabinet, appliance garage, and hidden fridge – keep the space as beautiful as it is functional.
(7) Cherry wood paneling echoes the original paneling in the adjacent dinign room and ties the kitchen to the home’s heritage.
