Xanadu had the pleasure of having a recent renovation featured in the local Guelph region Toque Magazine. Read on to learn more about the project.
Built on the original footprint of a heritage home, this renovation seamlessly merges timeless character with modern functionality. Original architectural features-like the peaked ceiling and chimney-were thoughtfully preserved, adding warmth and authenticity to the updated design. The traditional chimney now serves as a charming focal point alongside a sleek electric fireplace, blending old-world detail with contemporary convenience.
A sculptural floating staircase serves as the visual centerpiece, connecting bright, open-concept living spaces that are both practical and beautifully styled. The interiors were designed by our team with intention, featuring a main-floor primary suite, a cleverly designed home office with a hidden Murphy bed, and a stylish curb-less ensuite shower-perfectly balancing form and function.
This custom home interior in Elora is a true showcase of thoughtful interior design, blending clean lines, natural light, and warm materials to create a space that is modern, inviting, and built for everyday living. It’s a perfect example of how modern interior design can respect a home’s history while preparing it for the future.
THE HIGHLIGHT REEL:
(1) a versatile kitchen table expands to a full dining setup – perfect for hosting friends and family with ease.
(2) the open-concept main floor is anchored by a central floating staircase, allowing natural light to pour in and creating a seamless flow throughout the living spaces.
(3) a peaked ceiling at the top of the staircase nods to the original home’s architecture, blending heritage with modern design.
(4) the upstairs bathroom features a full tub, walk-in shower, high-end fixtures, and a soaring cathedral ceiling that evokes the home’s original character.
(5) an electric fireplace in the living area doubles as a design focal point and a cozy heat source.
(6) the main-floor primary ensuite includes a curbless shower-an elegant detail that adds both style and future-ready function.
(7) custom tilework in the main-floor powder room is just one example of the thoughtful, high-quality finishes found throughout.
